A winning weekend for the Sun Fast 3200: 3 races, 3 podiums!

The weekend of the Ascension was a big weekend for the Sun Fast 3200 whose crews populated the podiums in the Armen race, the Ascension Double and the Sailtica 2013!

ArMen Race

The famous ArMen race that took place on May 9-12 with over 130 competitors at the start in La Trinitie-sur-Mer was handily won by Patrice Carpentier and Michel Sauget on their Sun Fast 3200 Groupe 5 in the IRC double-handed division.

This is the second time in a row they have received this trophy. This 350 mile offshore race also saw Mathieu de Premorel and Cécile Andrieu take 3rd place in their Sun Fast 3200.

Right at the moment we were leaving the dock my crewmember, Michel Sauget, realised that he had forgotten his foul-weather bibs. He went to get them, but we were late leaving the dock and very late to cross the line. We were right at the limit of being disqualified. After that, we were able to climb back up the fleet and win the ArMen Race in IRC double-handed division for the 2nd year in a row.

The key moment was a long tack under spinnaker between Belle Isle and the Isle of Yeu. We were flying along at 17 knots and surfing. It was a little physical and I found this year a little tougher than last year. The west wind was consistent, but the seas were very rough from time to time.” Patrice Carpentier, Groupe 5 winner IRC double-handed division

Ascension Double

Here again a great finish for two Sun Fast 3200s. Francois Chabeau and F. Adam’s RCX duelled it out with the father and son team on Festa de Hamon to finish 2nd and 3rd in a race around the Quiberon bay.

Sailtica 2013

Last, but not least, Jean-François Nouel and his team on SNSP Hakuna Matata received the winner’s trophy for the Sailtica 2013 race that leaves from Pornichet on the west coast of France and finishes the first leg in Fowey, Cornwall. The second leg sees the competitors return to Pornichet. Jean-François Nouel and his Sun Fast 3200 finished first in both legs.

The crew of this Sun Fast 3200 is no stranger to winning. They hold the winner’s trophy for the 2012 Barquera race as well as wining the Sailtica last year. So another clean sweep!

Bravo to all the teams!
